Break the Ice

damn you cracks
mocking a stranger’s gaze with your evidence
eye wasn’t there to see you form
and yet there you lie
frozen over again
while the observer silently
stares in frustration

he knows how cracks are formed
and how they freeze over again
after the thaw has allowed for the gathering
of strange foreign objects
that remain lodged
until someone
breaks the ice
