Reality?

If you know me well, you know that I am not a person who watches much television at all.  What I do watch, I rarely discuss.

I can’t seem to get last night’s season finale of House out of my mind.  In the final scene, House has what I would perceive to be a psychotic break, which I believe was really a buildup from a fascinating web of various trance states developed over years of conditioning (read Trances People Live, and you might begin to have an idea).

That whole scene made me begin to think about all of the complex realites we create in our heads over and over, one linked to another, assuming things to be true that are just built on layer upon layer of assumption!

Whew!

What might happen if we all were to do something right now?  Take a moment, and notice what is going on. Start with your breath.  Notice how it feels going in and out, and be aware of how it changes how your body feels in the chair.  Now from that attention, expand outward to what is going on around you, and be aware of what you are taking in with your senses.

Just be aware.

From time to time in the middle of our days, when we find ourselves beginning to focus on something that isn’t there, we can choose a simple exercise like this, or maybe we can even do some simple task in our day with mindful attention.  You choose…
