Unfolding

beauty unfolding

Now that the paperwhites are fading, something new is unfolding.

It’s fascinating to watch something so simple slowly unfurl its petals as they no longer can tolerate the confines of the bud. It sure is taking its time, though!  Much, much more slowly than the paperwhites.

So, in the watching and waiting, what do you notice?  Does it make you uncomfortable?  Impatient?  Excited?  On edge?  Inquisitive (oh yes, I really don’t quite remember what shade the blossom is supposed to look like)?  Something else?

It’s not the waiting so much, it’s what you notice in the waiting.  How the color and shape and form slowly evolves over time.  How the stem wants to lean towards the light, such as it is, bit by bit.  How the leaves are slowly beginning to push up at the base, like blades of a vivid fan.

I’m beginning to wonder…how does the Amaryllis feel, in the midst of all that unfolding?  Is she tense?  Straining to burst open?  Or maybe just slowly letting the life fill up each vein in each petal, until the time of full bloom arrives…

…we can too.

The Unfolding–Chequerboard

Be well, and at peace,

  1. Teresa Tayag Says:

Once again, a wise food for thought, as it applies to my own waiting!

  2. Deborah Ling Says:

Reminds me of one of my favorite song/chants by an artist named Sophia. “I am opening up in sweet surrender to the luminous love-light of my Lord.” Thank you. Be Peace — Deborah
