Touching Beauty

Tonight at Blue Heron Sangha, we listened to a teaching by Thich Nhat Hanh, in which he told the story of climbing a mountain with his schoolmates.  He was told that there was a hermit that lived at the top, and had hopes of seeing him, as he had never seen a hermit before.  Instead, he discovered a beautiful natural well, carved out in the stone, by following the sound of dripping water.  When he found it, and tasted the water, he knew that he had seen the hermit.  Looking up into the deep blue sky, and hearing the leaves rustling in the wind, he fell into a very deep sleep for a short time, and then woke up and joined his classmates once again.

This story brings up several questions.

Are you searching for the hermit?

Where have you touched beauty today?

How were you surprised?
