Hugs for Survival!

In the 70’s when Bandler and Grinder were doing their research of “what works,” in the development of NLP, one of the therapists that they modeled was Virginia Satir. They noted that many things Satir did utilized techniques of hypnosis, even though she denied it. Primarily, what Virginia liked to do was to bring families together, and observe the family dynamic, as she recognized that a lot went on within the family. When she was five years old, she decided that she wanted to become a “children’s detective on parents.”

Here is one of my favorite quotes from Satir:

“We need four hugs a day for survival. We need eight hugs a day for maintenance. We need twelve hugs a day for growth.”

So, are you surviving, maintaining, or growing?

I love working with children! I do a better job of staying on quota than most, I think.
