Make Our Garden Grow…

It’s a strange time of year to talk about that, isn’t it?

I spent my lunch in Westgate Park again today. Things are still growing, which is unusual for late September. I set myself down promptly on one of the concrete benches near the pond, and look at the man fishing. “Any luck yet?” is the proverbial clichĂ© that comes out of my mouth to break the ice. “Nah, I just got here,” is his reply. “Oh, yes,” I answer back, accessing a memory from childhood, “fishing requires patience.” It does, you know. If you are not willing to wait, you should not be in the business of fishing.

My friend Al has been telling me that it’s a good idea to wait right now. “You’re putting a lot of paint on that canvas right now,” he says. I think I’m finally listening.

On my way back to my car, I look down and spy acorns strewn all over the ground, and then look up at the massive oaks which I so frequently ignore.

All in time, these things too will grow. Have patience…
