A Sign of Contradiction

Some days, life seems full of contradictions.

Today is a day of ultimate contradiction.  The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

Readings, The Exaltation of the Holy Cross

How do you find meaning in suffering?

Our priest shared with us two beautiful images of suffering.  First a crucifix, and a gift.  It was given to him by a family from Rwanda who lost 28 family members.

Next, another gift, which he used for celebrating Eucharist today–a chalice which was hand made by a Chilean craftsman who was blind.  It was hammered out of three older chalices, because silver at the time was scarce.

The filigree on the handles is in the traditional Chilean Andes style.  Very difficult for the presider to hold on to, but lovely.

Now that makes me think about crosses not being easy to carry…

…and contradictions…beauty…pain…off balance…suffering…life out of death…

Where are you experiencing death now?  And what resurrection will come of it?  What is the meaning of this suffering in your life?

What might this sign of contradiction be?  This lens through which we experience all existence?

And can you allow yourself to fully experience the life, death and resurrection that inevitably comes…now…knowing that it just is.

Be well, and at peace,

Phil
