The Missing Piece

missing piece

Not really looking for…

The Missing Piece – Shel Silverstein

…but thinking that maybe just beacause something appears to have part of it removed, does not mean that it is not whole.

Is it?
Maybe it’s better to just keep rolling sometimes!

mmm…Pie.

October 30, 2009 by pcadams

Title of this post?  Julia, who was simply repeating a mantra often spoken in their house.

Photo?  A favor for Jay, who is not sure he has ever really seen a proper traditional American pie.

Occasion?  Anthony’s birthday.

All of this coming together for maybe not the absolutely perfect American apple pie, but close enough that anyone would come back for seconds.

Flaky crust?  Check.

Tasty filling? Check.

Beautiful presentation?  Check.

Happy Birthday!

Someone I Love

October 29, 2009 by pcadams

I’m wondering what you can notice about this picture of the candle flame…

flame

Here are some things I noticed while just sitting with that:

It doesn’t look as though it has been lit for long

The wick reveals that it has been lit before

It appears small, and contained in a holder

There is no wind blowing on it

I suppose that you could go on and notice some more things about that picture, and maybe you will.

Isn’t it interesting how central to so many rituals candles and fire are.  Are you thinking about jack o-lanterns now?  Maybe candles for All Soul’s?  Maybe something else?

Tonight, someone said something powerful about a ritual.

“I do it because someone I love did it too.”

That seems to be a powerful statement about the potency of ritual, and its ability to bring the past into the present.

Have you ever thought about that?

How about your own rituals?  How did you learn to do them?  Who do they link you to, and how?

Just a thought.

Like a Mirror

Today I looked for the mirror in whatever I saw.

Attempting to not censor, but speak freely from the heart.  Here goes.

Looking Up

peering through the color in search of a piece of sky

peering through the color in search of a piece of sky

Something interesting happened yesterday, and I am still thinking about it.

Ever been somewhere, and you couldn’t move forward quite as quickly as you wanted to, so while you were waiting to move forward, you decided to really look at what was around you, and see some things for the first time?

It was kind of like that.

Funny how those branches were always there, but I was missing them.  A lot.

Someone asked the question today,

“Was it that you were not feeling connected, or maybe that there was just so much to take in that you weren’t able to notice all of it?”

“Maybe both.”

Hitting the Jackpot at Conkle’s Hollow

October 26, 2009 by pcadams

This may go down as the most amazing fall foliage of the century!  The camera was a very good tool to remind me today just how amazing the world is…the moments seemed fleeting today, and as one passed into another, and eyes fell from one radiant bough to the next, with wispy brushstrokes of white on a background of blue canvas, it seemed as though all the colors and feelings would simply come and go, while I stood perfectly still in the middle of it all.

Welcoming a New Friend

October 23, 2009 by pcadams

He arrived today, just in time for my birthday!

sax

What a pretty lad he is (Elena says in Italian, the saxophone is masculine, so that’s what I’m going with)…

As the first few notes came out, and I quickly checked against the piano to make sure he was on pitch (breathing a sigh of relief), I began to think of all the hands that had caressed that mother of pearl, all the licks that had shot out of that bell like wildfire, all the Sousa marches that had been blown…it makes one think about the shape we take as we change and grow, and how that shape tells us and others about the path our lives have taken.  Just like a tree…
